Butler

for your

V.P. Student Life

This is Alex Butler

He's a senior-year mechanical engineering student.

Alex is running for VPSL of DSU.

Alex likes to try new things.
Check out Alex try (successfully) to be a mermaid.
Or how about Alex playing at the Grawood open mic?

What is DSU?

What is the DSU, you ask? In brief, the DSU represents you, the Dal student. Every year, students elect 4 DSU executive members. This year, voting takes place between March 14th and March 16th, and offers VIP perks like:

  1. Winning a $500 Air Canada gift card
  2. Winning one of 60 $5 Tim's cards
  3. Winning a Grad House VIP card
  4. Attending the Nacho Average Debate event and getting discounted nachos
  5. Taking pics in the DSU's election photobooth and selfies with the Dal tiger
  6. Getting FREE Candy!!
  7. 10$ off Said the Whale Concert @ The Grawood

What's a VPSL?

From the DSU constitution, section 2, By-Law III:

7. The Vice President (Student Life) shall be charged with facilitating the operation of activities aimed at the improvement of student life on campus.

This means co-ordinating and helping plan school wide events, such as:

  • Orientation week
  • Dalfest
  • TEDxDalhousie
  • Snow-week
  • DSU impact awards
  • Grawood and T-room programming

It also means making campus life easier and more accessible on every level for all members of the DSU.

#DSUVotes

Alex's platform

  • Giving students the opportunity to connect on the basis of being Dalhousie students, instead of members of different faculties of study, and celebrating these different backgrounds.
  • This means: creating unique and spontaneous social events that take place on campus at any time, at any place.
  • Focusing on inclusive student life, and acknowledging that events sometimes lead to exclusion.
  • Promoting opportunities for students to connect at dry, all ages events.
  • Breaking down all percieved barriers of separation with students; with a particular focus on Sexton campus life.
  • Asking people to "try new things" on campus with me. Singing in the halls! Dancing in the streets! Making friends with fellow heretofore unknown co-students! Ask me to try something new with you on campus and I will oblige!

Alex's qualifications

And he's qualified?!

  • A Sexton student sensitive to a spread-out campus and its needs.
  • Involved in planning and organization of many activities, including
    • O-week leader, 2014 & 2015
    • Led Daljam! for two years, playing music all over campus from coffee houses to the impact awards (Check out their SoundCloud!)
    • Engineering Student Council Class Rep, 2014-2015
    • Co-organizer of SUBfest 2015, a fabulous campus music festival, as a part of the Dalhousie Music Festival Collective.
    • Co-organizer of Battle of the Bands T-room 2015
    • Organized many T-room and Grawood events and shows
